TRIP TO LIBERIA

When you hear the word- Africa, what is the first thing that come to your mind and how did you come up with your perception?

You see people ask me all the time about Liberia and now I am curious about your preconception.

Well, I have my perception and I am aware of others perception.

My perception: it's diverse. There are war torn areas and there are up and coming areas. There also are the jungle and safari areas that you see portrayed on TV.
How did I form this perception? Multiple ways, from TV, movies, and more importantly, from my friends and colleagues who grew up there and/or worked there. They have the most influence over my thougths.

Others perceptions: the stereotypical stuff. jungles, safaris, elephants, HIV/AIDS rates, war torn areas, criminals, genocide, and poor people. why do they think this? Media mostly, and always seeing Africans hawking stolen items in NYC. that is what i have heard.

Peace,
AG
